I played my practice round on Wednesday with Brooke Henderson and Caroline Hedwall. It was great to play with these two great players and a lot of fun.
Woburn is in perfect conditions and I really like the course, the only thing Woburn not being a links course makes it a bit weird for the feeling of playing a British Open.
The first round I was playing quite decent and I was -1 after 9 holes! On the 11th and 16th I made 2 bogeys falling back to +1.
Unfortunately on 18 I lost my first drive to the right and we couldn’t find it anymore so I had to go back to the tee. My second drive I hit was a bit too much left and in the thick rough, I had to chip out and go to the green with 5, making a triple bogey 7 in the end for +4. It’s really frustrating, ending my first round like this, because my game was really decent overall the round.
Time to refocus and look at the opportunities for tomorrow! The second round I got off to the perfect start with birdie-birdie and back at +2! From the 3rd till hole 7 I had great birdie chances which I unfortunately couldn’t convert and I got a bit inpatient. On the 8th I just missed the green and failed to make up en down for my first bogey that day, but with a par at 9 I was still at -1 and with a chance to make the cut! At 10 I made a stupid 3-putt for bogey and I wanted to get too much out of my drive at 12 where I hit it just off the fairway in a bush and I had to drop the ball and made another bogey. At that point I knew making the cut was hard and I wasn’t really believing in it too much any more as well (which is a shame afterwards, but that is what golf sometimes does with you).
In the end I finished at +4 and didn’t made the cut, I was really disappointed about the last 11 holes and at the end of my round where I let my head down. But that was a great learning experience for me! Looking back at it now it was great to play my first British Open, and I can’t wait for my next one next year!!!
